David & TillyIt aims to display some of the wonderful characteristics of the best dog breed in the world, and it’s ours; the iconic Australian Kelpie.

New website. New logo. New mission.

Our Club has survived Covid, driven with a focus on the future of expanding the breed’s profile, promoting responsible dog ownership, and having fun in future member and public inclusive educational activities. The Australian kelpie breed is well-known as a tireless working dog, mainly rounding up sheep. Not so well-known is its trove of extraordinary abilities and its capacity for unlimited loyalty and empathetic and intelligent companionship. Some of these traits are portrayed in the film Red Dog set in outback WA and the memorial statue outside Gundagai NSW of a kelpie sitting on a Tucker box, immortalised for its patience and loyalty.

But there’s more, more often recognised internationally, particularly in northern Europe. Highly intelligent, the breed is used in search and rescue, drug detection, and custom services and for extraordinary tracking capability where its intensity, focus, and amazing olfactory senses are used in social and judicial service.

Contrarily, their capacity as a comfort dog is second to none, and in many respects truly outstanding over commonly recognised breeds in this service. Their intelligence, understanding, and empathy with unlimited patience is truly wonderful to behold. Quiet, constrained, and respectful of their environment they will give unlimited love and affection with a beautiful light touch of joy and ‘forever optimism’; infectious and healing.

Members of The Australian Kelpie Club of Victoria wish to share their stories of the best dog they have ever had.
